LIMPING ALONG

“How long will you go limping along between two different opinions?...” 1 Kings 18:21 ESV

Elijah said that verse to God’s people when they said they knew The One True God yet they listened to and followed the god of Baal. Who was no god at all. They said they were people of faith in God. The God who does miracles, raises the dead, heals their disease, heals and restores relationships. God who’s Son is Jesus provided every need to the smallest detail yet, their opinion and outward actions were being formed by a religious group called Baal.

God saw them as limping along. People between two opinions, two thoughts. God’s people were in confusion. They said they loved God yet spent their time listening to other opinions. God’s people were influenced by the government of the day and the trending religious beliefs. Influenced by another opinion causing God’s people to limp, stumble and almost fall. God sent Elijah to give a word to those who were influenced by these other opinions. “How long will you limp along between two opinions?"

Maybe this is a word for you.

Who is influencing your thoughts? Who’s opinions are you repeating? Is it a news channel? A book? Is it a person from your past you respect yet that person doesn’t know Jesus?

Where are you getting your information to frame your thinking? An immature Christian that is still influenced by their yesterdays? A family member? A friend?

Who is influencing you as you form your opinions of Jesus? Are you between two opinions? Are you saying you’re a Christian and thinking from old opinions.

Jesus said, ‘Come to me and I will give you rest...take up my yolk...’His one opinion. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me.“

Jesus is one. One God, One Word, One thought, One opinion. Not one opinion among many. He is Truth. Truth is exclusive.

The Bible must be the influence that shapes your world view. It will shape your thinking and your opinion. The Bible will heal your limp. One Lord, One Spirit, One Opinion. Think it through. Like Elijah did, he cut off the other opinions. Then he proclaimed “For The Lord, He is God; the Lord He is God”. Trust Him. There is no other way. Pray.
