The second part of this proverb says; “and by the fear of the Lord one keeps away from evil”
This is a proverb, written to protect the mind as to what it indulges, the ears as to what it listens to and the eyes as to what they see in fulfilling desires.
In all these areas by the fear of the Lord one keeps away from evil. The Lord is the filter, the gate for our eyes, ears, thoughts and motives of the mind.
Let’s define fear: the overwhelming of the mind and heart with that which awes.
Let’s define the fear of the Lord: the overwhelming of the mind and heart with mercy and truth in contrast to destruction and loss as a result of iniquity which is lawlessness.
Apply this to your life like this, filter all things through this phrase; Is what I am (thinking about, talking about, looking at, listening to, planning to do) pleasing to My Lord Jesus?
Then filter it through Gods mercy and truth as you find it in the Bible. You will always be spot-on!
