“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”
Psalms 23:5-6
When the psalmist wrote this song of praise and thanksgiving he wrote it out of his experience with God. He experienced through life trials God’s abundant provision of a full table of the bread of Life. He experienced the abundance of God’s anointed presence as the psalmist lived many nights alone in the natural, yet knowing and feeling the presence of the Living Lord.
This isolated man of God knew the blesser so well he was able to know and receive an overflowing and abundant provision from God.
How? He experienced through experimenting with the promises of God...listen again: “surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life”.
Life on this earth will take many turns. Many of your closest relationships will disappoint, possibly betray and even turn their back on you. You may even be like the psalmist alone in the natural. These things can make one bitter. For you oh Christian, experiment with God’s promises and you will find, Jesus will never leave you all the days of your life and you already dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Forever has started...live as though Jesus is with you…He is Emmanuel, God with us.
